ENTRE O SER E O QUERER: O PROTAGONISMO FEMININO EM JEANNE D’ARPPO

Abstract

The struggle of women to be recognized as agents of history is long-standing. From birth, the woman is assigned the role of wife and mother. However, from modernity, emerges a new social role, acquired by their insertion in the labor market. This will entail changes in the constitution of female identity generated from the new discursive practices. This new role will influence the social relationships, changing the female identity construction. The corpus of this work is the play Jeanne D'arppo written by Gardi Hutter in 1981. Jeanne D'Arppo is a comic play in which the protagonist has a characteristic behavior of clowns. A deformed figure with unkempt physical appearance and that brings certain naivety in her actions. But at the same time takes advantage of this supposed naivete to criticize and speak indirectly to social issues. Gardi Hutter proposes, through laughter, a reflection on the social position that women occupy and which tasks they are assigned. In this case, more specifically, it is a place that is historically considered part of the feminine universe: the laundry. With the reading of the inserted female representations in the play, we traverse the paths theoretical concept of representation developed by Roger Chartier, as well as theories of Gender Studies using researchers as Joan Scott, Teresa de Lauretis, Michelle Perrot. The research seeks to analyze the social construction of women's identity and fragmenting agents of this new identity. It is concluded from this research, Jeanne D'arppo helps to restore the authority of women's action, and can also contribute to the reconstruction of the female role and hidden shyly represented in the hegemonic Western culture.
