LÍNGUA E CULTURA TALIANA EM IMBITUVA, PARANÁ: UM ESTUDO NA COMUNIDADE DE BELLA VISTA

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the main forms of manifestation of the Talian language and Talian culture among descendants of Italian immigrants in Bella Vista, Imbituva, Paraná. To this end, the history of Italian immigration was addressed, from the historical and political context in Italy that led to emigration, to the incentives for the arrival of Italians in Brazil. The migratory movement in Paraná and the formation of the Bella Vista colony in Imbituva were also discussed, based on the studies of Stadler (2019). This work is based on Sociolinguistics, especially the research of Labov (1964),Tarallo (1986), Calvet (2007), Altenhofen (2013) and Oliveira (2004). In addition, it analyzes minority and immigration languages, with a focus on the Talian language, and discusses the relationship between language and culture, following the perspectives of Lararia (2003), Hall (2016), and Loregian-Penkal and Dal Castel (2021). The links between language and culture constitute the formation of ethnic identity, which was based on Hall's theory (1999) and on the concepts presented by Seyferth (1990) and Luvizotto (2009). This research is qualitative in nature and involved the application of a questionnaire to 24 residents of Bella Vista, stratified by age group (35-49 years and over 50 years) and gender (male and female). The data, collected with the help of local leaders, and the research were approved by the Ethics Committee, reveal that the Talian language is still known by the elderly, but is in disuse, with few young people speaking this language or practicing the customs associated with it, such as praying in Talian or eating polenta. Therefore, the results indicate that the Talian language and Talian culture are being lost in Bella Vista and language policies play a crucial role in the preservation or extinction of languages, that is, the research highlights that the presence of the Talian language in the community studied is decreasing, reflecting an irreparable cultural loss.
