ESPOSAS E FILHAS: UMA ANÁLISE HISTORIOGRÁFICA DA PARTICIPAÇÃO FEMININA NOS ESPAÇOS PÚBLICOS DE SÃO MATEUS DO SUL/PR - 1911-1932

Abstract

The aim of this research is to demonstrate the presence of certain women in the public spaces of São Mateus do Sul-PR, based on sessions of the Municipal Council. We identified 77 women's signatures in the minutes across eight records, spanning from 1911 to 1932. These minutes and oral testimonies constitute our primary research sources for this dissertation. The minutes are contained in the first two volumes of the Council, and the temporal context of the study encompasses the early decades of the 20th century. We understand that the research strand of Symbolic Spaces, Knowledge, and Corporealities privileges this theme by providing scientific support and cohesion for this type of investigation into gender relations, employed here as an analytical category. The analyzed settings, conceived as "regions," are suitable for the development of this research, which finds its foundation in the assumption of its concentration area: dialogue with the social and symbolic practices that give coherence to individuals, their identities, alterities, and relationships with the environment in multiple temporalities. Who were the women who signed their names in the minutes? Were they wives and/or daughters of local political representatives? Did they organize themselves in any form of association? We understand that the social construction of gender in the past was used to justify inequalities, and to deconstruct these models, we need to clarify what is meant by masculinities and femininities from a gender perspective. Another aspect we address in our research is the use of public spaces by these women in the past to understand their political representation. As a scientific basis, we rely on the theoretical and methodological contributions of Michelle Perrot, Joan Scott, June Hahner, Michel De Certeau, Raquel Soihet, Maria Odila Leite Silva, Joana Maria Pedro, Maurice Halbwachs, Michel Pollak, Etelvina Maria de Castro Trindade, among other researchers from various fields of knowledge that have a connection to our research theme.
